Location

Description
Position Summary
Independence Academy Charter School is seeking a supportive and creative Art Paraprofessional to assist the Art Teachers in providing engaging visual arts instruction for students in grades 6-8.
The primary purpose of this position is to support students during art instruction. The Art Paraprofessional works directly with students during studio activities, helping them access materials, develop artistic skills, and participate successfully in hands-on creative learning.
Preparation of materials and classroom organization are secondary responsibilities intended to support instruction and should not replace time spent assisting students during active learning.
The Art Paraprofessional works under the direction of the Art Teachers and school administration and is not responsible for lesson planning, grading, curriculum design, or managing the art program.
Core Responsibilities
Student Support During Instruction
The Art Paraprofessional is expected to spend the majority of their time assisting students during scheduled art classes. Responsibilities include:
• Assisting students individually or in small groups during art projects
• Helping students understand project directions and artistic techniques
• Supporting students in safely using art tools and materials
• Encouraging creativity, experimentation, and problem solving
• Circulating throughout the classroom to provide guidance and encouragement
• Assisting students with varying learning needs so they can fully participate in art activities
• Helping maintain a safe and productive studio environment
Whenever students are actively working, the paraprofessional’s priority should be supporting student learning rather than completing preparation tasks.
Classroom and Studio Support
• Assist with distributing and collecting materials during lessons
• Support classroom setup and cleanup during class periods
• Help maintain an organized and safe art studio environment
• Assist with basic organization of student artwork during projects
• Support safety when tools, paint, and equipment are in use
