Requirements
Major Responsibilities and Duties
The Middle School ELA Teacher provides instruction that is hands-on, inquiry-based, and highly engaging. The teacher will:
• Design and deliver ELA instruction aligned to Colorado Academic Standards for grades 6–8 using a workshop model (mini-lessons, independent practice, conferring, and reflection)
• Foster a classroom culture that values choice, voice, and student agency in reading and writing
• Use diverse, culturally responsive, and inclusive texts that reflect a wide range of identities, perspectives, and lived experiences
• Teach reading comprehension strategies, literary analysis, and informational text skills through authentic texts and discussion
• Guide students through the full writing process, including planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing across multiple genres
• Design meaningful literacy experiences that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) through interdisciplinary projects
• Incorporate discussion-based strategies (Socratic seminars, book clubs, literature circles, peer feedback) to strengthen speaking and listening skills
• Utilize formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and support student growth
• Integrate technology purposefully to enhance literacy instruction, collaboration, and student engagement
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary units and align instruction across content areas
• Willingly participate in team teaching with a Social Studies partner to support integrated humanities instruction

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field
• Valid Colorado Teaching License in English Language Arts (or ability to obtain)
• Strong understanding of adolescent literacy development and best practices in reading and writing instruction
• Experience or interest in workshop-based instruction and interdisciplinary teaching
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Strong written, verbal, and technology-based communication skills
